Ambrosoli Foundation

Fondazione Dr. Ambrosoli was established on 20 February 1998 by the Ambrosoli family and the Comboni Missionaries, with the aim of continuing the work of Father Giuseppe Ambrosoli, a doctor and missionary who devoted his life to caring for the most vulnerable in Uganda. For more than 25 years, the Foundation has been active in Kalongo, northern Uganda, supporting the Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Midwifery Training School, two institutions that play a vital role in the health and development of local communities. With 286 beds and more than 260 members of staff, the hospital provides healthcare to over 50,000 people every year, mainly women and children, in an area where access to medical care remains a daily challenge.

Alongside healthcare provision, the Foundation invests in the training of local medical staff through scholarships, partnerships with specialist institutions and professional development programmes, with the aim of supporting the hospital on its path towards increasing autonomy.

Particular attention is given to women’s empowerment. By supporting the midwifery school, the Foundation offers young Ugandan women tangible opportunities for education, financial independence and professional growth, while at the same time helping to improve the health of mothers and newborn babies. Inspired by the Comboni ideal, “Save Africa with Africans”, Fondazione Ambrosoli carries forward a commitment that goes beyond healthcare: promoting dignity, skills and opportunities so that local communities can build their own future independently.
