Description

2 seats in the stalls to attend the concert of the Filarmonica della Scala conducted by Maestro Manfred Honeck, with pianist Benjamin Grosvenor.

Program:

  • Johann Strauss, Die Fledermaus – Overture
  • Maurice Ravel, Piano Concerto in G major
  • Dmitri Shostakovich, Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Op. 93

For his return to Teatro alla Scala, Manfred Honeck presents a varied and refined program, beginning with a tribute to his fellow Austrian Johann Strauss with the overture to his most famous operetta. This is followed by Maurice Ravel’s divertissement, as the composer himself wished to call his Concerto in G: the sound of the piano is like fresh, transparent water, in a playful dialogue with the orchestra that recalls Mozartian lightness. In the second half, Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony tells of the composer’s regained creative freedom, returning to symphonic writing after an eight-year hiatus following Stalin’s death.

Manfred Honeck is one of today’s most important conductors. Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for 15 seasons, he began his career as assistant to Claudio Abbado and conductor of the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra, following his experience as a violist in the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. He has conducted world-renowned orchestras and opera houses and is also active as an opera conductor.

Benjamin Grosvenor, one of the leading British pianists, was named by Gramophone as one of the 50 greatest recording pianists of all time. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music with the Queen's Commendation for Excellence, he is an “Ambassador” for Music Masters, a charity promoting accessible and inclusive music education.

The concert will take place on Monday, 3 November 2025 at 8:00 PM at Teatro alla Scala, Milan.
