Description

Ancient Russian Icon “Virgin Shuskaja Hodegetria” – XVII Century with Silver Riza (1829).

A magnificent Russian icon depicting the Virgin Shuskaja Hodegetria, made in Central Russia at the end of the 17th century. The icon was later embellished with a magnificent riza (oklad) in chased silver, made in St. Petersburg in 1829.

The riza is a work of goldsmith art of the highest quality, with chiseled workmanship and finely decorated with floral motifs and golden rays. It has marks of authenticity, including the hallmark of master silversmith Mikhail Karpinskij. The workmanship is typical of the productions of St. Petersburg in the early nineteenth century, carried out with extraordinary skill and attention to detail.

The icon is accompanied by a certificate issued by the historic jewelry store G. Petochi & Figlio, a renowned Roman workshop active since 1884, specialized in silverware and sacred art objects.

Russian icons with silver riza from the 18th-19th centuries are highly sought-after objects in the market of sacred art and antiques. This icon combines the sacredness of traditional Russian painting with the elegance of high-quality silverware, making it a piece of great historical and collector value.
