During his time at Barcelona, Laudrup was celebrated as the best foreign player in the Spanish league on two occasions, in 1991 and 1993. However, with the arrival of Romário in 1993, the rotation system for foreign players mostly penalized the Danish star, ultimately leading to his exclusion from the 1993-1994 UEFA Champions League final, which Barcelona lost to Milan in Athens.
