Description

Title of the work:

"Guerra #1"

Technical specifications:

  • Varedo, 2020;
  • 60x60x6 cm - unique;
  • Drawing on Muji notebook in iron case;
  • Courtesy Paola Sosio Contemporary Art Milano.

Additional information:

“Guerra”, in my intentions, should be a polyptych composed of at least twenty notebooks, positioned along a circumference, without beginning or end, giving rise to a repetition of black shapes that are bunkers and fortifications, and seem to become graphic elements, almost stamps, notes of a very sad score that repeats itself endlessly.

Unlike most of the notebooks I have drawn, in “Guerra” the writing is deliberately readable and understandable, more or less. I have brought you the words and thoughts of those who lived through the war, perhaps even initially embraced the idea with unconscious enthusiasm, but then suffered a lot, or died.

So far I have created three notebooks of “Guerra”, a diptych, and the single in question.

The texts reported in them belong to Wilfred Owen, who died on the French front on 4 November 1918, to the memories from the front of Michele Campana and Silvio D’Amico, World War I in this case too, and to Nedžad Maksumić, whose dramatic, impressive narration of the tragedy of Sarajevo, following the dissolution of Yugoslavia, I had the opportunity to get to know from the recitative "Nessuno fece nulla" by Giovanni Lindo Ferretti / C.S.I."
