The Copa Sul-Brasileira, also known simply as the Copa Sul, was an interstate competition held in 1999 featuring 12 clubs from Southern Brazil, representing the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná. Participating teams included Gremio, Internacional, Juventude, Coritiba, Paraná and Atlético Paranaense.

Gremio won the inaugural edition of the competition, securing the title on 25 April 1999 in Curitiba with a 1–0 victory over Paraná in the decisive match.

The 1999 season marked an important period in the young Ronaldinho’s career. A product of Gremio’s youth academy, he had made his first-team breakthrough in 1998 and began establishing himself as one of Brazilian football’s most exciting young talents while wearing the Tricolor shirt. His performances for Gremio would pave the way for an extraordinary international career, which later took him to Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona and saw him achieve some of football’s most prestigious individual and team honours.

This shirt therefore dates from the formative years of one of the most celebrated talents of his generation, representing the club where Ronaldinho developed as a player and took his first steps in professional football.
