Among the most interesting prototypes in Lionel Messi's career is this Adidas Messi 15.1 Prototype, first spotted on the feet of the Argentine superstar during an FC Barcelona training session following his performance against Manchester City. Several months before the official release of the new Messi signature model, Adidas produced a fully blacked-out "blackout" version, used exclusively during the testing phase to conceal the innovations introduced with the new line.

This boot marked the beginning of a new technical generation designed specifically for Messi. The upper was constructed from an extremely soft material, offering a feel similar to natural leather, while the forefoot featured a special three-dimensional texture (3D Grip) engineered to enhance ball control in both dry and wet conditions. Around the heel, an external support cage was incorporated to provide increased stability and security during rapid changes of direction and acceleration.

The prototype also introduced a new Skeleton Sole Plate, a completely redesigned outsole platform developed by Adidas. Information released during the development phase indicated a stud configuration inspired by the Adidas F50 Adizero 2014, a model particularly favored by Messi and used as a reference for some of the boot's dynamic performance characteristics.

The Messi 15.1 would later be officially unveiled in the distinctive Ice Blue launch colorway, which was expected to be worn by Lionel Messi during the 2015 Copa América. This blackout prototype therefore represents a rare piece from the development stage of one of the most significant models in Messi's signature line, documenting the transition toward a new concept of speed, stability, and control, specifically engineered around the demands of his playing style.
