Description

Case of 6 bottles of La Court Vigna Veja Nizza Riserva DOCG 2019.

Produced only in exceptional vintages and in an extremely limited number of bottles, sold exclusively by allocation, La Court Vigna Veja represents the finest and rarest expression of Barbera di Castelnuovo Calcea. It is a project that combines winemaking excellence and contemporary art: the label for this special Riserva is designed by Ugo Nespolo, one of Italy's leading exponents of Pop Art. During an exhibition dedicated to him at Art Park La Court, the artist was fascinated by the landscape and the identity of the place; thus was born the work "Doors on the Hills," now on display in the park, and the idea of creating a unique Riserva, adorned with his art.

We are in the municipality of Castelnuovo Calcea, on the highest hill of the La Court estate, approximately one hectare planted in 1964, facing south and southwest at 250 meters above sea level. The soil of the so-called "Astia sands"—clayey-calcareous marl of marine origin, rich in silt, sand, and magnesium—lends depth and complexity to the Barbera grape, trained using the Guyot system with approximately 5,000 vines per hectare and deliberately very low yields (5-6 bunches per plant). Sustainable management is Equalitas certified, and the harvest is strictly manual.

The 2019 vintage has been described by the producer as "superclassic": after a winter rich in water reserves and a spring with balancing rains, the summer favored a slow and gradual ripening, culminating in the harvest on September 28th. Low in quantity but exceptional in quality, it promises a longevity of over 15 years.

Vinification takes place in oak vats with maceration on the skins for approximately 20 days, the last 10 of which are done using the submerged cap method, at temperatures between 27 and 30°C. Aging is long and patient: at least four years in total, approximately two of which are in small and medium-sized barrels, before final maturation in the bottle.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red with brilliant purple highlights. The aroma is intense, elegant, and complex, with hints of black berries, black cherry, rhubarb, and chocolate. On the palate, it reveals great structure and harmony: silky, enveloping, with a vibrant freshness that accompanies a very long and persistent finish.

Serve at 18°C (64°F). It is best paired with agnolotti with roast sauce, tagliolini with porcini mushrooms, braised meats, roast veal, roast lamb, and well-aged cheeses. Available in 0.75L and 1.5L formats, sealed with cork, this is a collector's item, designed to stand the test of time and reveal, year after year, the deepest essence of Barbera di Nizza.
