The shirt can be linked only to the two matches against Werder Bremen, as they were the only UEFA Cup games in which AC Milan wore the kit without the commemorative patch for the previous season’s Club World Cup victory.

The first leg was played in Bremen on 18 February 2009 and ended 1–1, while the second leg in Milan on 26 February 2009 finished 2–2. Werder Bremen advanced on the away-goals rule.

The shirt is issued as Kaka was not called up for either match as he was injured despite Milan having done everything to recover him.
