Ibiscus Onlus

The Lega Ibiscus Onlus, born in 1986, on the initiative of Prof. Schilirò, is the association of the parents of children in treatment or out of treatment in the Regional Reference Center of Pediatric Onco-Hematology of the Polyclinic of Catania and of all members (doctors , nurses, ordinary citizens) who have decided to work for the development of assistance and research in the field of blood diseases and tumors in children.

The main activity of the Association is to support children hospitalized in the Regional Reference Center of Pediatric Onco-Hematology of the Catania Polyclinic and their families, with interventions aimed at reducing the problems that obviously arise from the moment the diagnosis is identified . In fact, the continuous hospitalizations deriving from the use of international protocols, even experimental ones, for the relative treatments, lead to an inevitable lowering of the quality of their life.

The headquarters of the Association is the "Casa di Accoglienza Ibiscus", affectionately known by all as "la casetta" (inside the Policlinico - via S.Sofia 78 Catania): a structure which offers the opportunity to stay free for all families out of residence during the period of hospitalization or treatment of the children in DH.
