The author, Giovanni Gastel, said of the work:
"A feeling that I have always had, since I was a child, entering the Duomo, is my smallness dragged towards God, by the tensions and the modeling of the Duomo itself, which lead upwards. In this shot I tried to convey that feeling.
I took the photograph on November 9, 2020.. I had never entered a completely deserted Duomo. It was an extraordinary thing. There I felt the power of divine architecture. I asked myself "What can I do in homage to the beauty of this monument that tells the story of the Milanese people? Perhaps stop on a detail and make people understand how much our existence is dragged towards the sky".
