"This staircase of a Roman apartment building, built in 1936 in the Prati district, was chosen for the strong symbolic value impressed in its eye-shaped design, in contrast with the austere and rational lines of the building that contains it.
This must have been the impression that Federico Fellini got when he chose it for one of the most dramatic and dreamlike scenes of La Dolce Vita, when Marcello runs to his friend Steiner's house and is greeted by the indiscreet glances of the overlooking condominiums"
"Stairs are the perfect metaphor for human action: transforming nature and building the world in one's own image, starting from the opacity of stone to aim for the brightness of the sky. [...]
Stairs are the threshold of becoming, of ascent, of progress; constructions born for the functional connection between the different floors become the symbolic link between the different levels of consciousness."
