Description

Title of the work:

"Monument Valley, Colorado, #001, 2014"

Technical specifications:

  • Colorado, 2014;
  • 59.4x42 cm - e.g. 1/5;
  • Inkjet print on Fine Art paper.

Additional information:

The system of deserts in the West is one of the most complex in the world, Death Valley alone is in fact a complex of twenty-three different deserts.

The Gold Rush was the consequence of the geo-telluric immobility of this majestic geological antiquity. A stagnation lasting millions of years allowed the formation and availability of unimaginable resources in gold, silver or oil.

It was the slow underground stirring and the corresponding immobility on the surface that made the Far West very rich and desolate at the same time. The discovery of the first nugget in California in 1848 fueled the desires of hundreds of thousands of prospectors, who came from the four corners of the planet in search of fabulous and, in the majority of cases, unattainable riches.

Text extracted from the book WEST, Electa, 2023

“I have sought the completed form of the future social catastrophe in geology.” Jean Baudrillard
