The “1979 FIFA World Youth Championship” was the 2nd edition of the Under-20 World Cup. It took place from August 25 to September 7 in Japan and was won by Argentina.

Algeria, drawn in a group with Spain, Mexico, and Japan, qualified in 2nd place and faced Argentina in the quarter-finals on September 2, losing 5–0.

Among the Argentine team, a very young Maradona led the team and helped drive Argentina to win the tournament.

The shirt shows signs of wear, possibly related to gaming actions, however, no photographic evidence of the same has been found and therefore it is not possible to guarantee beyond reasonable doubt that the shirt was actually worn in match (and not getting dirty in other ways over time).
